X is a sign both simple and complex, both a symbol and a metaphor. X is an axis, locating device; X is for mapping treasure or unknown values; for finite events, and unrevealed futures. X is a letter, a mark, a proxy, an intersection and the number ten. On display in the exhibition is the collective thesis work of graduating students Anthony Acock, Chantal Fischzang, Richard Hall, Christina Latina, Anqi Li, Nick Misani, Frances Pharr, Mimi Rojanasakul, Janice Rudan and Natalie Sims, encoded by ten versions of X. Taking the biological extinction as a visual metaphor, this project calls for attentions to the threats of language extinction.
